A guide showed a man a high mountain in the west. The mountain had four hollow places. Three were dark, and one was bright. There was a fountain of water in the middle. The man wondered how smooth and deep the hollow places were. An angel named Raphael explained that these hollow places were made for the spirits of the dead. All human souls gather there until their judgement day. The man saw the spirit of a person who had died. The spirit was crying out to heaven. The man asked Raphael whose spirit it was. Raphael said it was Abel, who was killed by his brother Cain. Abel's spirit was crying out against Cain until Cain's descendants were gone from the earth. The man asked why the hollow places were separate. Raphael explained that the three dark hollow places were for different groups of spirits. The bright one was for the spirits of the righteous. It had a spring of water. The other two were for spirits who were not righteous. One was for those who were killed by sinners and were crying out for justice. The other was for those who were sinners themselves. These spirits would not be killed on judgement day, but they would not be raised either. The man praised the Lord of glory, calling him the Lord of righteousness who rules forever.
I then went to another place, and he showed me a great and high mountain in the west, made of hard rock. There were four hollow places in it, very deep, wide, and smooth. The hollow places were extremely smooth, deep, and dark to look at.
There were four hollow places in it, deep and very smooth: three of them were dark, and one was bright. There was a fountain of water in its center. I said, "How smooth these hollow places are, and so deep and dark to look at."
Raphael, one of the holy angels with me, replied, "These hollow places were made for the spirits of the dead to gather. All human souls will come here. They will stay until their judgement day, until the time appointed for them, until the great judgement arrives."
I saw the spirits of people who had died, and their voices were crying out to heaven, asking for help.
I asked the angel Raphael who was with me, "Whose spirit is this that is speaking and making a request?"
This is the spirit of Abel, whom his brother Cain killed. Abel's spirit accuses Cain until Cain's descendants are wiped out from the earth and no longer exist among humanity.
I asked about this and the other hollow places: "Why are they separated from each other?"
He replied to me, saying: "These three places have been created to separate the spirits of the dead. One of them is for the spirits of the righteous, where there is a bright, flowing spring of water."
Here is the rewritten verse: And that is how it is with the spirits of the righteous, who have died in the name of the Lord of Spirits.
Here their spirits will be separated in this great pain until the great day of judgment and punishment and torment for those who curse forever, and retribution for their spirits. There He will bind them forever.
Here is the rewritten verse: A special place has been set aside for the spirits of those who speak out, revealing the destruction that happened when they were killed during the time of the wicked.
Here is the place prepared for the spirits of people who were not righteous but sinners, who were completely full of wrongdoing. They will be together, but their spirits will not be destroyed on the day of judgment, nor will they be raised from there.
I praised the glorious Lord, saying, 'May my Lord, the Lord of righteousness, who reigns forever, be blessed.' This is for those who die and are buried in the earth, without having faced judgment during their lifetime.
