The righteous are told to be hopeful. The sinners will soon be gone. The righteous will then have power over them. On the day of trouble for the sinners, the children of the righteous will rise high. They will find safety in the earth and rocks. The sirens will cry because of them. The suffering righteous are told not to fear. They will be healed. A bright light will shine on them. They will hear a voice of rest from heaven. The sinners are warned. Their riches make them look good, but their hearts show they are sinners. This will be remembered against them. Woe to those who eat the best wheat and drink wine in large bowls. They step on the lowly with their power. Woe to those who drink from every fountain. They will suddenly be gone. They left the fountain of life. Woe to those who do wrong and lie and curse. This will be remembered against them for evil. Woe to the mighty who oppress the righteous. Their day of destruction is coming. Many good days will come to the righteous on the day of judgement.
Be encouraged, you who are righteous, for suddenly the wicked will be destroyed before you. You will have authority over them as you wish.
In the day of trouble for the wicked, your children will rise up like eagles, and your nest will be higher than vultures. You will go up and hide in the cracks of the earth and the holes in the rocks forever, like rabbits escaping the wicked. The sirens will mourn and weep because of you.
Do not be afraid, those who have suffered. Healing will be your reward, and a bright light will shine on you. You will hear the voice of rest coming from heaven.
Here's the rewritten verse: "Trouble is coming to you, you sinners, because your wealth makes you seem righteous. But your hearts prove you're guilty, and this will be evidence against you, a reminder of your evil actions."
Woe to you who eat the best wheat, drink wine from large cups, and trample the poor with your power.
Woe to you who drink from every source, for you will suddenly be destroyed and wither away, because you have abandoned the source of life.
Woe to you who do wrong, deceive, and speak against what is right. This will be a lasting record of your evil.
Here is the rewritten verse: "Trouble is coming to you powerful people who use your strength to mistreat those who are good. The time when you will be destroyed is near. But for the good people, many happy days are coming when you are being judged."
