Enoch tells his son Methuselah about two visions he had before marriage. The first vision was about the heaven falling to earth, causing great destruction. The earth was swallowed by a great abyss, mountains and hills collapsed, and trees were uprooted and sunk into the abyss. Enoch cried out, "The earth is destroyed." His grandfather Mahalalel woke him up and told him the vision was about the earth's destruction due to sin. He advised Enoch to pray for a remnant to survive. Enoch prayed and wrote down his prayer for future generations. Afterward, he saw the sun rising in the east, the moon setting in the west, and the earth as it was in the beginning. He blessed and praised the Lord for the sun's path.
Here's what I saw, my son Methuselah. I'll tell you all about the visions I've had.
I had two visions before I got married, and they were very different from each other. The first one was when I was learning to write, and the second one was before I married your mother. It was a frightening vision, and I prayed to the Lord about both of them.
I was sleeping in my grandfather Mahalalel's house when I had a vision. In it, I saw the sky collapsing, being carried away, and falling to the earth.
When it fell to the earth, I saw the earth being swallowed up in a huge pit. Mountains were hanging over other mountains, hills were collapsing onto other hills, and tall trees were torn from their roots, thrown down, and sank into the pit.
And then, a thought came to me, and I raised my voice to shout, saying, 'The earth is ruined.'
My grandfather Mahalalel woke me up as I was lying next to him and asked, "Why are you crying so much, my son? Why are you making such a lament?"
I told him the entire vision I had seen, and he said to me, 'You have seen something terrible, my son. Your dream is very significant because it reveals the secrets of all the sins on earth. The earth will sink into the abyss and be destroyed in a great disaster.'
Here is my request, my son: stand up and pray to the Lord of glory, because you trust in Him. Ask Him to spare some people on earth, so that He doesn't destroy everyone.
Here's the rewritten verse: My child, all of this will happen to the earth from heaven, and there will be great destruction on the earth.
I got up, prayed, and begged, then wrote down my prayer for all future generations. I will share everything with you, my son Methuselah.
When I went out and saw the sky, the sun rising in the east, the moon setting in the west, a few stars, and the whole earth, just as it had been in the beginning, I praised the Lord of judgement and honored Him because He made the sun come out from the east, rise up into the sky, and travel along its path.
