Chapter IX Summary
Michael, Uriel, Raphael, and Gabriel look down from heaven. They see much bloodshed and lawlessness on earth. They hear the earth crying out. They hear the souls of men asking for help. They speak to the Lord of the ages. They call him Lord of lords, God of gods, King of kings. They say he made all things and sees all things. They say nothing can hide from him. They tell him what Azazel has done. He taught unrighteousness on earth. He revealed secrets from heaven. Semjaza leads others. They slept with women on earth. They defiled themselves and taught sins. The women bore giants. The earth is filled with blood and unrighteousness. The souls of the dead cry out. They ask for help at the gates of heaven. Their cries do not stop. The angels ask the Lord what to do. They ask about the lawless deeds on earth.
Michael, Uriel, Raphael, and Gabriel looked down from heaven and saw that much blood was being shed on the earth, and that there was great lawlessness everywhere.
They said to each other, "The empty earth echoes with the voices of the oppressed, reaching up to the gates of heaven. Now, you holy ones of heaven, the souls of these people are pleading with you, saying, 'Take our case to the Most High.'"
They said to the Lord of all time: "Lord of all lords, God of all gods, King of all kings, and God of all time, your throne of glory will stand forever, and your name is holy, glorious, and blessed for all time!"
You created everything and have power over everything. All things are open and visible to You, and You see everything. Nothing can hide from You.
You have seen what Azazel has done. He has taught all kinds of wickedness on earth and has revealed the eternal secrets that were kept in heaven, which people were trying to discover.
Semjaza, who you have given authority over his companions.
They went to the women on earth, had sexual relations with them, and corrupted themselves by teaching them all kinds of evil.
The women gave birth to giants, and because of this, the whole earth became filled with bloodshed and wickedness.
The souls of those who have died are crying out and pleading at the gates of heaven. Their cries have reached heaven and won't stop because of the wicked things happening on earth.
You know everything before it happens, and you see these things happening, yet you allow them. You don't tell us what we should do about them.
