Psalms 69

Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul.

Help me, God; I'm drowning in my own emotions.

I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

I'm stuck in thick mud, can't stand; I'm in deep water, with too much water flooding me.

I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.

I'm tired of crying: my throat is dry: I can't see well while I wait for my God.

They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.

People who dislike me without reason are many, like the hairs on my head. Those trying to harm me unfairly are powerful enemies. Yet, I returned things that I didn't take away.

O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.

Dear God, you understand my mistakes; you see all my wrongdoings.

Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.

Don't let those who hope in you, Lord God of armies, feel embarrassed because of me; don't let those searching for you be confused because of me, O God of Israel.

Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.

Because of you, I faced disgrace and my face was covered in shame.

I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother’s children.

I am now unfamiliar to my brothers and unrelated to my mother's family.

For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

Because I care so much for your home, it consumes me; and the insults hurled at you have been directed at me instead.

When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.

When I cried and ate very little, it made me feel bad.

I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.

I turned my clothing into rough fabric, and I became an example for people to talk about.

They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.

People at the city entrance talk badly about me; I was the song for those who drink too much alcohol.

But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.

My prayer to you, Lord, is during a good time: God, in your great mercy, listen to me, through your true saving power.

Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.

Get me out of the mud and don't let me drown. Save me from my enemies and deep water.

Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

Don't let floodwaters overwhelm me, don't let the deep ocean swallow me, and don't let the pit trap me.

Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

Listen, God; since your kindness is great: come to me because of your many gentle acts of mercy.

And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.

Don't ignore me, God; I need your help because I'm facing difficulties. Please answer me quickly.

Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.

Bring yourself close to my heart and save me; protect me from my enemies.

Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.

You know my disgrace, embarrassment, and disrespect; all those against me are in front of you.

Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

My heart is hurt by criticism, and I'm very sad. I searched for people to feel sorry for me, but no one came. I also sought comfort, but nobody offered it.

They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

They served me strong-tasting liquid with my food, and when I was thirsty, they offered me sour liquid to drink.

Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.

Let their food setup cause them trouble: and what was meant to help them, turn into a trap.

Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.

Make them unable to see and constantly tremble in fear.

Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.

Let your anger be directed at them, and let your fierce anger overtake them.

Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.

Make their home empty, and don't let anyone live in their tents.

For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.

They harass the one you have punished, and they discuss the sorrow of those you have hurt.

Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.

Increase their wrongdoings: and don't let them be part of your goodness.

Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.

Erase their names from the list of living people, and don't write them among the good people.

But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.

But I have no money and feel sad: please, God, make me happy again with your help.

I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

I will sing about God's name and thank him happily.

This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.

God is more pleased by this than by a strong animal with horns and feet.

The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.

The humble people will see this and feel happy. Those who search for God will have a living heart.

For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.

The LORD listens to the poor and does not disregard his captives.

Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.

Let the sky and Earth celebrate him, the oceans, and everything moving within them.

For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.

God will rescue Zion and rebuild Judah's cities so people can live there and own them.

The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.

The descendants of his followers will inherit it, and those who love his name will live there.
