After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

Two days after the Passover feast, when people ate unleavened bread, the main priests and writers secretly planned to trick Jesus and cause his death.

But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.

But they said, Not on a holiday, so as not to cause the people to become upset.

And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

Jesus was at Simon the leper's house in Bethany, eating a meal when a woman arrived with a very expensive bottle of perfume made from spikenard. She broke the bottle and poured the perfume on Jesus' head.

And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

Some people inside were upset and asked, "Why did they waste so much ointment like this?"

For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

It could've been worth over 300 pennies and given to the poor, but they complained about her.

And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.

And Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done something good for me."

For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

You always have poor people around, and whenever you want, you can help them. But I won't be with you all the time.

She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

She did her part: she came early to anoint my body for burial.

Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

I truly tell you: wherever this good news is shared around the world, people will remember what she did.

And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.

Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leaders to betray Jesus to them.

And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.

When they heard the news, they were happy and agreed to give him money. He then looked for a good way to betray him.

And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?

On the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the Passover, Jesus' followers asked him, "Where do you want us to go and get things ready for you to eat the Passover?"

And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.

He sends two of his followers with instructions to go into the city. There, they will find a man carrying a water jug. They should follow this man.

And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

Ask the homeowner, "The Master asks, where is the room for guests, where I can have the Passover meal with my followers?"

And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.

He will show you a big upstairs room, all set up and ready to go; get it ready for us.

And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

Jesus' followers left and entered the city, finding things just like He told them. They prepared the special meal called Passover.

And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.

And in the evening, he arrives with the twelve.

And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.

While they were sitting and eating, Jesus said, "I truly tell you, someone who is eating with me will betray me."

And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?

They started feeling sad and each asked him, "Could it be me?" Another person also asked, "Could it be me?"

And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.

He replied, "One of the twelve is the one who eats from the same dish with me."

The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

The Son of Man will be killed, as predicted; however, it's terrible for the person who betrays Him. It would have been better if that person had never existed.

And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.

While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, said a blessing, broke it into pieces, and gave it to them. He said, "Take and eat. This is my body."

And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.

He picked up the cup, said a thank you prayer, then passed it to them; everyone drank from it.

And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

He told them, "This is my blood from the new agreement, spilled for many people."

Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

Truly, I tell you, I won't drink wine from grapes again until the day I drink it fresh in God's kingdom.

And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

After singing a song, they left for the Mount of Olives.

And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

Jesus tells them, "Everyone will be disappointed in me tonight because it's written that the leader will be hurt, and the followers will run away."

But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

But after I rise, I'll go ahead to Galilee and be there first.

But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.

But Peter told him, Even if everyone is upset, I won't be.

And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.

Jesus tells him, "I truly mean it: Today, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times."

But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.

But he spoke even stronger, "If I die with you, I won't deny you at all." Everyone else felt the same way.

And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

They went to a spot called Gethsemane, and Jesus told his followers, "Stay here and I will pray."

And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

He brings Peter, James, and John with him and becomes extremely surprised and sad.

And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

He tells them, "I am extremely sad, almost to the point of death. Please stay here and keep a watch.

And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

He stepped forward, then fell down and prayed to avoid the hour if possible.

And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

He said, "Dear Father, you can do anything; please don't make me drink this cup. But, whatever you want, not what I want."

And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

He arrives and finds them asleep, and tells Peter, "Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn't you stay awake for even an hour?"

Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

Stay alert and pray so you don't fall into temptation. Our spirits want to do good, but our bodies can be weak.

And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.

And once more, he left, prayed, and repeated the same words.

And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.

When he came back, he saw them sleeping again (because their eyes were very tired), and they didn't know how to reply to him.

And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

He comes for the third time and tells them to sleep now and rest, it's enough, the time has come; look, the Son of Man is handed over to wicked people.

Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

Get up, let's leave; look, the one who will betray me is nearby.

And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

Right away, as Jesus was still talking, Judas, one of the twelve disciples, arrived with a large group carrying swords and sticks. They came from the high priests, writers, and older people.

And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

The one who betrayed him gave them a signal, saying, "Whoever I kiss, that person is the one; arrest him and safely take him away."

And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.

As soon as he arrived, he went right over to him and said, "Master, master," while also giving him a kiss.

And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

They put their hands on him and grabbed him.

And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

A man with a sword hit the high priest's servant and cut off his ear.

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

Jesus asked them, "Why are you here with swords and sticks, like chasing a thief, trying to capture me?"

I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

Every day, I taught at the temple, but you didn't notice. But the Bible prophecies had to come true.

And they all forsook him, and fled.

And everyone left him and ran away.

And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:

A young man with a linen cloth wrapped around him followed Jesus. The other young men grabbed him.

And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

He dropped the white cloth and ran away without any clothes on.

And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.

They took Jesus to the high priest, and many important priests, elders, and writers were there too.

And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

Peter stayed far behind as Jesus went to the high priest's palace. There, he sat with the servants and kept warm by the fire.

And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

The main priests and everyone in the council looked for someone to testify against Jesus so they could kill him, but they couldn't find anyone.

For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

Many people lied about him, but their stories didn't match.

And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

Some people rose up and lied about him, claiming,

We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

He said he would demolish the hand-built temple and construct a different one without hands in just three days.

But neither so did their witness agree together.

However, their testimony didn't match either.

And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

The main priest stood in the middle and questioned Jesus, asking if he had no answer for what the witnesses were accusing him of.

But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

But he stayed quiet and didn't say anything. Once more, the high priest questioned him and said, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?"

And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Jesus said, "I am," and you will see the Son of Man seated at God's side with great authority, and returning to Earth from the sky.

Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

Then the top priest tore his clothes and said, Why do we need more witnesses?

Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

You heard the disrespect. What do you think should happen? They all decided he should die.

And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

Some people spat on him, covered his face, hit him, and said "Prophesy." The servants hit him with the palm of their hands.

And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:

As Peter was down in the palace, one of the high priest's maids came to him.

And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.

When she saw Peter by the fire, she noticed him and said, "You were also with Jesus from Nazareth."

But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.

But he said no, claiming he didn't know and didn't understand what was being said. Then he left the porch area, and a rooster crowed.

And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.

A servant spotted him once more and told those nearby, "This is one of them."

And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.

He denied it once more. Soon after, the people nearby said to Peter again, "You must be one of them," because he talked like a Galilean.

But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

But he started swearing, saying, "I don't know the person you're talking about."

And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

The second time the rooster crowed, and Peter remembered what Jesus told him - before it crowed twice, he would deny Jesus three times. When he thought about this, he cried.
