Among the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen chief men of the house of their fathers, and eight among the sons of Ithamar according to the house of their fathers. In simpler terms, this verse says that there were more important people from the family of Eleazar than from the family of Ithamar. They divided them like this: There were 16 leaders in the Eleazar family and 8 leaders in the Ithamar family.
