The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;

To the older person speaking to the chosen woman and her kids, who are all loved for being true; and it's not just me, but everyone who knows the truth, too.

For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.

For the truth living within us will always be with us forever.

Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

May grace, mercy, and peace be with you, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, his Son, in genuine love and sincerity.

I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

I was very happy to see your kids following truth, just like we were taught by our Father.

And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

And now, dear lady, I ask you not to think I'm giving you a new rule, but rather the one we've had since the start - to love each other.

And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

And this is love: following his rules. This rule says: just like you've known since the start, keep following it.

For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

Many fake people are in the world who don't say that Jesus came as a real person. They are tricky and against Jesus.

Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

Check your own actions so we don't lose what we've accomplished; instead, let's get the full reward we deserve.

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

Whoever disobeys and doesn't follow Christ's teachings doesn't have God. Those who follow Christ's teachings have both the Father and the Son.

If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

If someone comes to you but doesn't teach the right lessons, don't let them stay at your place or wish them well.

For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

If someone wishes someone else good luck, they are sharing in their wrongdoings.

Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

I had a lot to tell you, but I didn't want to write it down with pen and paper. Instead, I hope to visit you soon so we can talk in person. This way, our happiness can be complete.

The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.

The kids from your chosen sister's family say hello. Amen.
