Zeus (Greek: Ζεύς, Hebrew: זאוס) is the sky and thunder god in ancient Greek religion, who rules as king of the gods of Mount Olympus. His name is cognate with the first element of his Roman equivalent Jupiter. Zeus is etymologically cognate with the sky god *Dyeus*, found in the Rigveda of Hinduism, and the Proto-Indo-European religion. Zeus is the child of Cronus and Rhea, and the youngest of his siblings. In addition to his Indo-European inheritance, the classical "cloud-gatherer" (Greek: νεφελεγερέτα) also absorbs some attributes of an older Middle Eastern sky god in a syncretic manner. Zeus is frequently depicted by Greek artists in quite varied attitudes, the most common of which is the standing frontal statue type. He is a common figure on Greek vases.
