Zelenskii is a transliteration of the Russian surname Зеленский, which is the surname of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the sixth and current President of Ukraine. The surname is derived from the Ukrainian word зеленый (zelenyy), meaning "green." In Hebrew, the surname can be transliterated as זלנסקי. In French, it is Zelensky, and in German, it is Selenskyj. Volodymyr Zelenskyy gained international prominence for his leadership during the Russian invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022. Prior to his political career, Zelenskyy was a comedian, actor, and producer, best known for his role in the television series Servant of the People, in which he played a fictional Ukrainian president.
