
Volodymyr Zelenskyy (Ukrainian: Володимир Зеленський, pronounced [woloˈdɪmɪr zeˈlɛnʲsʲkɪj]; born 25 January 1978) is a Jewish-Ukrainian politician and former comedian who has been serving as the sixth President of Ukraine since May 2019. Before his political career, Zelenskyy was widely known as a comedian, actor, screenwriter, film producer, and director. He created the production company Kvartal 95, and starred in its television series Servant of the People, in which he played a president who accidentally becomes the President of Ukraine. The series aired from 2015 to 2019, and the political party Servant of the People was created and named after it. Zelenskyy's presidency has been marked by the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War, including the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. In response to the invasion, Zelenskyy gained global recognition for his leadership and defiance, with Time magazine naming him their 2022 Person of the Year.
