Warp drive

A warp drive, also known as an Alcubierre drive, is a theoretical faster-than-light (FTL) propulsion system. The concept was first proposed by physicist Miguel Alcubierre in 1994, based on a solution of the Einstein field equations in general relativity. The drive works by contracting spacetime in front of a spacecraft and expanding it behind, creating a "warp bubble" that moves the spacecraft at apparent speeds greater than that of light without violating the laws of relativity. In Hebrew, warp drive is referred to as נע תמרון (pronounced "na'a tamrun"). The term "warp" originates from the science fiction series Star Trek, where it describes a method of spacecraft propulsion capable of faster-than-light travel. While the Alcubierre drive remains purely theoretical due to significant energy requirements and unknown practical challenges, it has sparked considerable interest in the scientific community and popular culture. In Spanish, it is called motor de curvatura, and in French, propulsion supra-luminique or moteur d'Alcubierre.
