A vice president (Hebrew: סגן נשיא, Sagan Nasi; Spanish: vicepresidente; French: vice-président) is an officer in government or business who is below or subordinate to the president or chief executive. The position may be a lower-level assistant and deputy who is elected separately or a superior officer coreigned equally with the president. The name comes from the Latin vice- "in place of" and praesidere "to lead".
