Vedic Astrological Houses

In Vedic astrology, or Jyotish (Sanskrit: ज्योतिष, jyotiṣa), the astrological houses (also known as Bhavas, Sanskrit: भव, bhava, meaning "that which happens" or "that which comes into being") are divisions of the sky that serve as a framework for interpreting the positions and influences of celestial bodies. These houses are calculated based on the Lagna (ascendant) and represent different areas of life, such as personality, family, career, and spirituality. The twelve houses in Vedic astrology are distinct from those in Western astrology, primarily due to differences in the calculation methods and the use of the sidereal zodiac (based on the fixed stars) rather than the tropical zodiac (based on the seasons). Each house is associated with specific qualities, elements, and planetary rulers, providing a nuanced understanding of an individual's life experiences and potential. In Hebrew, the term for astrological houses is ביתות (baitot), while in Hindi, it is referred to as भव (bhava).
