Tikkun

Tikkun (Hebrew: תיקון) is a Hebrew term that translates to "repair," "restoration," or "rectification." In Jewish spiritual and mystical traditions, particularly in Kabbalah, tikkun refers to the process of repairing the world, often in a cosmic or spiritual sense. This concept is rooted in the idea that the world is imperfect and that humans have a role in its restoration. The most well-known application of this term is in the phrase tikkun olam (Hebrew: תיקון עולם), which means "repair of the world." This phrase encapsulates the Jewish ethical principle that individuals are obligated to participate in improving society and the world. In broader contexts, tikkun can also refer to the correction or improvement of texts, such as in the Tikkun Soferim, a collection of textual emendations to the Hebrew Bible. The term has also been adopted in modern contexts to describe various forms of social action and community service aimed at addressing societal issues.
