A tchotchke (pronounced CHAWCH-kuh) is a small, decorative item or trinket, often considered to be of little value or significance. The term is derived from the Yiddish word צאצקע (tsatske), which means a small, unimportant thing. In Hebrew, the term is often transliterated as צ'אצ'קה (chachke). Similar items are known as souvenirs in French, kitsch in German, and bagatelle in Italian. Tchotchkes are commonly found in tourist shops, flea markets, and as promotional items. They often serve as collectibles or conversation pieces, though their practical use is typically minimal. The term can also be used pejoratively to describe something as trivial or insignificant.
