Shepherds Pie

Shepherd's pie is a savory dish consisting of cooked minced meat topped with a layer of mashed potato and baked. It is traditionally made with minced lamb or mutton, in which case it is often known as cottage pie when made with minced beef. The dish has its origins in the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it remains a popular comfort food. The name "shepherd's pie" is believed to have originated in the late 19th century, with the first known printed use of the term appearing in 1877. In Hebrew, the dish is known as פאי כבש (Pai Kovesh). In French, it is called hachis Parmentier, named after the French pharmacist and agronomist Antoine-Augustin Parmentier, who promoted the potato in France. The dish is also known as pastel de carne in Spanish and pastel de carne in Portuguese. Variations of the dish exist worldwide, with different names and slight modifications to the recipe.
