Shadowwork is a psychological and spiritual concept that involves exploring and integrating the unconscious aspects of one's personality, often referred to as the "shadow self." This term originates from the work of psychologist Carl Jung, who described the shadow as the unknown dark side of the personality which is often repressed, denied, or unconscious. The process of shadowwork involves acknowledging and understanding these hidden aspects to achieve greater self-awareness and personal growth. In Hebrew, the term can be translated as עבודה בצל (avodah betzal). In other languages, it is known as Arbeit im Schatten in German, Trabajo de sombra in Spanish, and Travail de l'ombre in French. Shadowwork is often practiced through various therapeutic techniques, such as journaling, meditation, dream analysis, and therapy, to bring the shadow self into conscious awareness and heal psychological wounds. This process is considered essential for achieving wholeness and balance in one's life.
