Psychological warfare

A psyop, short for psychological operation, is a planned operation designed to convey selected information and indicators to foreign audiences to influence their emotions, motives, objective reasoning, and ultimately the behavior of a government, organization, group, or individual. The term is commonly used within military and intelligence circles. In Hebrew, it is translated as פעולה פסיכולוגית (pe'ula psikholgit). In other languages, it is known as opération psychologique in French, operación psicológica in Spanish, and psychologische Operation in German. Psyops can employ various techniques, including the use of leaflets, broadcasts, and other media, to achieve their goals. They are often used in conjunction with other military operations to weaken enemy morale, confuse adversaries, or garner support from local populations. The ethical and legal boundaries of psyops are often subjects of debate, as they can sometimes involve deception or manipulation.
