Philippe Ptain Wwi

Philippe Pétain (24 April 1856 – 23 July 1951) was a French general who served as a Marshal of France, a military leader during World War I, and later as the Chief of State of Vichy France from 1940 to 1944. Pétain is best known for his role in the Battle of Verdun in 1916, where his defensive strategy and the phrase "They shall not pass" ("Ils ne passeront pas") became iconic. In Hebrew, his name is transliterated as פיליפ פטן. In German, he is referred to as Philippe Pétain, and in Spanish as Filippe Pétain. Pétain's military career was marked by his expertise in infantry tactics and his ability to inspire troops. However, his legacy is deeply controversial due to his collaboration with Nazi Germany during World War II, leading to his trial and conviction for treason after the war.
