Obatala (also spelled ObaTala, Obatala, or Orisanla) is a significant deity in the Yoruba religion, a West African spiritual tradition. The name Obatala translates to "The King who brings peace" in the Yoruba language. In Hebrew, this can be roughly translated as מלך שמביא שלום (Melech Shemviya Shalom). In Spanish, it is sometimes referred to as Obatalá, and in Portuguese, it is known as Obatalá. Obatala is considered the sky father and the creator of human bodies, often associated with purity, peace, and morality. In the Yoruba pantheon, Obatala is one of the most revered Orishas (deities), and is often depicted as an elder figure who embodies wisdom and justice. Followers of Santería, Candomblé, and other Afro-diasporic religions that originated from the Yoruba tradition also venerate Obatala. His symbol is a white cloth, representing purity, and his followers often wear white as a sign of devotion. Obatala is invoked for guidance, healing, and moral clarity, and is believed to intercede on behalf of those who seek his aid.
