Nyame (also spelled Nyame or Nyame) is a supreme deity in the Akan religion of the Akan people of Ghana and Ivory Coast. In the Akan language, the name Nyame translates to "God" or "the Supreme Being." The deity is considered the creator of the universe and the ultimate source of all life and power. Nyame is often associated with the sky and is believed to reside there, overseeing the affairs of the world. The Akan people view Nyame as a distant but benevolent force, intervening in human affairs only when necessary. Nyame is also known by other names in different Akan dialects, such as Onyankopɔn in Twi, which translates to "the Supreme Being" or "the Almighty." In other West African cultures, similar supreme deities exist, such as Olodumare in Yoruba religion and Mawu-Lisa in Vodun. The concept of Nyame is central to Akan cosmology and is often invoked in prayers, rituals, and traditional ceremonies.
