Nut

A nut is a hard-shelled fruit of some plants that has an edible seed. Nuts can be used as a source of food, food oils, fibers, or raw materials for oil-based paints. In botanical terms, a nut is a type of fruit (and not a seed) with a hard shell and a seed inside, where the ovary wall becomes the shell. The term is more restrictive in botany than in culinary usage, where it is also used to describe many seeds that are not botanically nuts. In Hebrew, nut is translated as אגוז (Egoz). In French, it is noix, in Spanish nuez, and in German Nuss. Nuts are often energy-dense and contain a high proportion of oils, essential fatty acids, and proteins, making them a valuable part of the human diet. They can be eaten raw, roasted, or ground into paste form, and are commonly used in both sweet and savory dishes.
