Nike, Inc. is an American multinational corporation that is engaged in the design, development, manufacturing, and worldwide marketing and sales of footwear, apparel, equipment, accessories, and services. The company is headquartered near Beaverton, Oregon, in the Portland metropolitan area. It is the world's largest supplier of athletic shoes and apparel and a major manufacturer of sports equipment, with revenue in excess of US$37.4 billion in its fiscal year 2020. As of 2020, it employed over 76,700 people worldwide. The brand alone is valued at about $30.1 billion, making it the most valuable brand among sports businesses. Nike is also one of the most valuable brands in the world. The company was founded on January 25, 1964, as Blue Ribbon Sports, by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, and officially became Nike, Inc. on May 30, 1971. The company takes its name from Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. In Hebrew, the company is known as נייקי (pronounced "Nike"). In Japanese, it is known as ナイキ (pronounced "Naiki"), and in Spanish, it is known as Nike or sometimes Nike, Inc.. The company's logo, known as the "Swoosh," is one of the most recognizable brand symbols in the world.
