Nationalism

National unity refers to the state of social and political cohesion within a nation, where its people are united despite differences in culture, language, religion, or ethnicity. It is often characterized by a shared sense of national identity, common goals, and collective responsibility. In Hebrew, the term is translated as אחווה לאומית (ah'va lo'omit). In other languages, it is known as unidad nacional in Spanish, unité nationale in French, and nationale Einheit in German. National unity is crucial for the stability and progress of a country, as it fosters cooperation, reduces internal conflicts, and strengthens the nation's ability to address external challenges. It is often promoted through shared values, education, and inclusive policies that respect and celebrate diversity while emphasizing common bonds. Historical events, such as wars or significant social movements, can also play a pivotal role in fostering national unity by bringing people together in pursuit of a common cause.

Nationalism
Ideology promoting the nation-state
Nationalism is an ideology or movement that holds that the nation should be congruent with the state. As a movement, it presupposes the existence and tends to promote the interests of a particular nation, especially with the aim of gaining and maintaining its sovereignty (self-determination) over its perceived homeland to create a nation-state. It holds that the nation should govern itself, free from outside interference (self-governance), that a nation is a natural and ideal basis for a polity, and that the nation is the only rightful source of political power. It further aims to build and maintain a single national identity, based on a combination of shared social characteristics such as culture, ethnicity, homeland, language, politics, religion, traditions or belief in a shared singular history, and to promote national unity or solidarity. There are various definitions of a "nation", which leads to different types of nationalism. The two main divergent forms are ethnic nationalism and civic nationalism.
