Nakshatra Meaning

The term Nakshatra (Sanskrit: नक्षत्र, IAST: Nakṣatra) refers to a constellation or a lunar mansion in Hindu astrology and astronomy. In the context of Hindu astrology, there are 27 Nakshatras, each occupying 13°20' of the zodiac and associated with specific deities, symbols, and natural elements. The Nakshatras are used to determine various aspects of life, such as marriage, naming ceremonies, and other significant events. In Hebrew, the term can be translated as קבוצת כוכבים (Kvutzaat Kochavim), which means "star cluster" or "constellation." Similarly, in Arabic, it is known as النجم (Al-Najm), meaning "star." The Nakshatras play a crucial role in Vedic astrology, influencing the interpretation of horoscopes and the timing of auspicious events. Each Nakshatra is further divided into four quarters, known as Padas, which provide additional nuance to astrological readings.
