Maurice De Saxe

Maurice de Saxe, born Maurice de Saxony (German: Moritz von Sachsen, French: Maurice de Saxe, Polish: Maurycy Saski), was a French military leader of German descent who served as a Marshal of France. Born on October 28, 1696, in Goslar, Holy Roman Empire, he was the illegitimate son of Augustus II the Strong, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, and Aurora von Königsmarck, a Swedish countess. Maurice de Saxe is best known for his military prowess and his victory at the Battle of Fontenoy in 1745 during the War of the Austrian Succession. He also played a significant role in the Battle of Rocoux in 1746. His innovative tactics and leadership greatly influenced French military strategy. Maurice de Saxe died on November 20, 1750, in Château de Chambord, France. In Hebrew, he is referred to as מוריץ מסקסוניה.
