About Mass Hypnosis

§ 02

Mass hypnosis, also known as group hypnosis or collective hypnosis, is a psychological phenomenon where a group of people experience hypnosis simultaneously, typically induced by a hypnotist or through shared suggestion. The term hypnosis translates to היפנוזה in Hebrew, Hypnose in German, Hypnose in French, Ipnosi in Italian, and 催眠 (cuìmián) in Chinese. Mass hypnosis is often used in therapeutic settings, stage performances, and self-help workshops to facilitate relaxation, behavior modification, or pain management. The effectiveness of mass hypnosis depends on the suggestibility of the individuals within the group and the skill of the hypnotist in creating a shared, focused state of attention. Critics argue that the concept of mass hypnosis can be misleading, as it implies a loss of individual control, whereas proponents emphasize its potential for collective healing and transformation.
