Lunar module

The Lunar Module (LM), also known as the Moon Landing Module, was a spacecraft designed to carry astronauts from lunar orbit to the surface of the Moon and back. It was a critical component of the United States' Apollo program, which successfully landed humans on the Moon between 1969 and 1972. The LM was a two-part vehicle consisting of a descent stage, which powered the initial landing and remained on the Moon, and an ascent stage, which lifted the astronauts back into lunar orbit. The LM was not designed for Earth re-entry or atmospheric flight, and it was discarded after its mission was complete. In Hebrew, the Lunar Module is called חדר הנחיתה הירחי (Heder Hanichita Hayarchi). Translations in other relevant languages include Mondlandefähre in German, Module lunaire in French, and Módulo Lunar in Spanish.
