Louis Desaix

Louis Desaix (17 August 1768 – 14 June 1800) was a French military commander during the French Revolutionary Wars and one of the most prominent generals of the French Revolutionary Army. Desaix is best known for his role in the Battle of Marengo, where his timely arrival with reinforcements turned a losing battle into a decisive victory for Napoleon Bonaparte. Born in Saint-Hilaire-d'Alre, Desaix joined the French Royal Army in 1784 and quickly rose through the ranks due to his exceptional military skills and leadership. He was a staunch republican and played a significant role in the early campaigns of the French Revolution. Desaix's strategic brilliance and personal courage made him a beloved figure among his troops and peers. He was mortally wounded during the Battle of Marengo and died shortly after, leaving behind a legacy as one of France's greatest military leaders. In Hebrew, his name is transliterated as לואי דזאי.
