Lagna Ascendant

The Lagna, also known as the Ascendant, is a crucial concept in Jyotish (Hindu astrology) and Western astrology, referring to the zodiac sign that is ascending on the eastern horizon at the precise moment of a person's birth. In Hebrew, it is sometimes translated as העולה (Ha'olah). In Sanskrit, the term is लग्न (Lagna), which means "that which connects" or "the beginning." The Lagna is considered the first house in a natal chart and is pivotal in determining an individual's personality, physical appearance, and overall life path. It serves as the foundation for interpreting the other houses and planetary positions in the chart. In Vedic astrology, the Lagna is calculated based on the exact time and place of birth, and its significance is often compared to the Ascendant in Western astrology, although the methods of calculation and interpretation may differ slightly between the two systems.
