Joseph Kony

Joseph Kony (born 1961) is a Ugandan rebel leader and the founder of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a guerrilla group that has operated in northern Uganda and adjacent parts of Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic. Kony, whose name translates to יוסף קוני in Hebrew, يوسف كونى in Arabic, and Yusufu Koni in Swahili, is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity, including the use of child soldiers, forced conscription of children, and mass atrocities. The LRA, under Kony's leadership, has been responsible for the abduction of tens of thousands of children and the displacement of millions of people. Kony's motives are rooted in a desire to establish a theocratic state based on the Ten Commandments and his own interpretation of Acholi culture and spirituality. Despite international efforts to bring him to justice, Kony remains at large as of 2023.
