Hermenubis

Hermenubis is a syncretic deity that combines the attributes of two ancient Egyptian gods: Hermes (or Thoth in some interpretations) and Anubis. The name "Hermenubis" is derived from the Greek Hermes and the Egyptian Anubis. This deity was particularly prominent in the Graeco-Roman period of Egyptian history, reflecting the cultural and religious syncretism of the time. In Hebrew, the name can be translated as הרמנוביס. The deity is often depicted with the head of a jackal, like Anubis, but also with the caduceus, a symbol associated with Hermes. Hermenubis was revered as a guide of souls to the afterlife, embodying the roles of both Hermes as a psychopomp and Anubis as the protector of the dead. This syncretic deity highlights the blending of Greek and Egyptian religious traditions during the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
