Hebrew Gematria

Gematria (Hebrew: גימטריה, also known as gimatria or gematriya) is a form of Jewish mysticism that involves the numerical values of letters in the Hebrew alphabet. The practice is based on the idea that words or phrases with identical numerical values bear some relation to each other or to the concept that number itself. Gematria is often used to find connections between different words or verses in the Hebrew Bible, as well as to derive hidden meanings or insights. The term gematria itself is derived from the Greek word geometria (γεωμετρία), meaning "geometry," reflecting the numerical aspect of the practice. In Arabic, the concept is known as jafr (جفر). Gematria has been used throughout Jewish history for theological, mystical, and exegetical purposes, and it remains a significant part of Jewish tradition and Kabbalistic thought.
