Gate

A gate is a point of entry to a space enclosed by walls, a fence, or any other form of barrier. Gates can be found in various settings, including homes, cities, and digital systems. They serve as a means of controlling access, providing security, and managing the flow of people, vehicles, or data. The term "gate" is derived from the Old English word geat, which has cognates in other Germanic languages, such as the German Tor and the Dutch poort. In Hebrew, the word for gate is sha'ar (שער). Gates have been used since ancient times, with notable examples including the gates of Babylon and the gates of Jerusalem. In modern contexts, gates can also refer to components in electronic circuits or digital systems, such as logic gates, which control the flow of electrical signals or data.

Gate
A gate or gateway is a point of entry to or from a space enclosed by walls. The word is derived from Proto-Germanic *gatan, meaning an opening or passageway. Synonyms include yett and portal. The concept originally referred to the gap or hole in the wall or fence, rather than a barrier which closed it. Gates may prevent or control the entry or exit of individuals, or they may be merely decorative. The moving part or parts of a gateway may be considered "doors", as they are fixed at one side whilst opening and closing like one.
