Fidel Castro (1926–2016) was a Cuban revolutionary and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976, and then as the President of the Council of State from 1976 to 2008. He also served as the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Armed Forces from 1959 to 2008. Castro was a prominent figure in the Cold War and one of the world's longest-serving non-royal heads of government, in power from 1959 until 2008, shortly before his death in 2016. His administration was characterized by its socialist policies, including the nationalization of private industries and the implementation of universal healthcare and education. Castro's rule was marked by both significant achievements in social welfare and criticism for human rights abuses and authoritarian governance. In Hebrew, Fidel Castro is known as פידל קסטרו. In Russian, he is referred to as Фидель Кастро (Fidel' Kastro), and in Arabic, he is known as فيدل كاسترو (Faydal Kastru).
