Dione

Dione is a moon of Saturn discovered by Italian astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini in 1684. It is named after the Titaness Dione of Greek mythology, and is also designated Saturn IV. Dione is primarily composed of water ice and is one of the fifteen moons of Saturn that are large enough to have achieved hydrostatic equilibrium, though it is not spherical due to its small size. The moon has a diameter of 1,123 kilometers (698 miles) and orbits Saturn at a distance of about 377,400 kilometers (234,500 miles). Dione's surface is heavily cratered, with some evidence of past geological activity such as tectonic fractures and smooth plains that may have been volcanic in origin. In Hebrew, Dione is known as דיוֹנֵה. In Latin, the name is retained as Dione, and in Japanese, it is called ディオネ (Dione).
