Coleslaw

Coleslaw (also known as coleslaw or cole slaw) is a salad made primarily from finely shredded raw cabbage, which may also be combined with a variety of other ingredients such as shredded carrots, onions, and other vegetables. The cabbage may come in white cabbage, green cabbage, or red cabbage varieties. It is most commonly bound together with a salad dressing, which is either a mayonnaise or a vinaigrette, and can be enhanced with celery seeds, spices, or herbs. The dish is served cold or chilled and can be used as a side dish, a condiment, or a topping for hot dogs or hamburgers. The name coleslaw is an anglicization of the Dutch term koolsla, which literally means "cabbage salad." In Hebrew, it is known as חציל סלט (khatzil salat). Other translations include ensalada de col in Spanish, salade de chou in French, and Krautsalat in German.
