Buzz Aldrin

Buzz Aldrin, born Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. on January 20, 1930, is an American former astronaut, engineer, and fighter pilot. He is most famous for being one of the first two humans to land on the Moon, alongside Neil Armstrong, during the Apollo 11 mission on July 20, 1969. Aldrin's middle name, Buzz, originated as a childhood mispronunciation of "brother," and he legally changed his first name to Buzz in 1988. In Hebrew, his name is translated as בז אלדרין. In Spanish, it is Buzz Aldrin, and in Russian, it is Базз Олдрин. Aldrin's contributions to space exploration and his advocacy for space tourism and Mars colonization have made him a prominent figure in the field of aerospace engineering and human spaceflight.

He made three spacewalks as pilot of the 1966 Gemini 12 mission, and was the Lunar Module Eagle pilot on the 1969 Apollo 11 mission. He was the second person to walk on the Moon after mission commander Neil Armstrong. Following the deaths of Armstrong in 2012 and pilot Michael Collins in 2021, he is the last surviving Apollo 11 crew member. Following Jim Lovell's death in 2025, Aldrin became the oldest living astronaut.
