Bayinnaung (Burmese: ဘုရင်ဘုရင်; MLCTS: *bhu. rang bhu. rang*; pronounced [bàiɴàɴ]; 1516–1581), also known as Sithu II and Hso Khan Mway, was the third king of the Taungoo Dynasty of Burma (Myanmar). He is widely regarded as one of the greatest monarchs in Burmese history, presiding over the largest empire in the history of Southeast Asia. Bayinnaung's reign saw the expansion of the Burmese Empire to its greatest territorial extent, encompassing present-day Myanmar, the Shan states, Lan Na, Lan Xang, Ayutthaya, Manipur, and parts of Arakan and Assam. His campaigns and administrative reforms significantly influenced the political and cultural landscape of mainland Southeast Asia. The name "Bayinnaung" translates to "King of Kings" in Burmese. In Thai, he is known as Phra Chaiya Thai Sa (พระไชยทัยศรีสา), and in Lao, he is referred to as Sai Setthathirath (ໄຊເສດຖາທິຣາດ).
