Aker

Aker (also spelled Akeru or Akeru) is an ancient Egyptian deity associated with the horizon and the sun god Ra. He is typically depicted as two lions or lion-headed sphinxes back-to-back, symbolizing the duality of the horizon-the place where the sun rises and sets. Aker's name translates to "Horizon" in English, and in Hebrew, it can be translated as אָקֶר (Akér). In ancient Egyptian, the name is transliterated as 3ḫr. Aker was believed to guard the sun god Ra as he traveled through the underworld during the night, ensuring the safe passage of the sun and the continuation of the cycle of day and night. This deity was particularly significant in the context of Egyptian cosmology and the daily rebirth of the sun.
