Zechariah (Hebrew: זְכַרְיָה, Modern Zekharya, Tiberian Zəḵaryā, "Yahweh has remembered") is a male given name of Hebrew origin. It is the name of several figures in the Hebrew Bible and other religious texts, most notably the prophet Zechariah, who is the author of the Book of Zechariah, one of the books of the Twelve Minor Prophets. In the New Testament, Zechariah is also the name of the father of John the Baptist, a priest of the order of Abijah. The name is also found in the Quran as Zakariya (Arabic: زكريا), where he is revered as a prophet. Variations of the name include Zachary, Zacharias, and Zachery in English, Zacharie in French, Zachariasz in Polish, and Zakhar in Russian.
