Vedic Sun Sign

The Vedic sun sign, also known as the Rashi in Sanskrit (Hebrew: סימן השמש הוודית, Siman HaShames HaVedit; Hindi: सूर्य राशि, Surya Rashi), is a key component of Vedic astrology, an ancient Indian system of divination based on the positions of celestial bodies at the time of a person's birth. Unlike Western astrology, which primarily uses the tropical zodiac, Vedic astrology employs the sidereal zodiac, accounting for the precession of the equinoxes. The Vedic sun sign is determined by the position of the Sun at the time of birth according to the sidereal zodiac, which is aligned with the fixed stars. This results in a slight difference between Vedic and Western sun signs, typically by about one sign. The Vedic sun sign is considered crucial in Vedic astrology as it represents the individual's core identity, ego, and vitality. The 12 Vedic sun signs are named after constellations and are associated with specific traits, strengths, and challenges, similar to Western astrology but with distinct interpretations and applications.
