Vasily Chuikov (Russian: Васи́лий Ива́нович Чуйко́в; 12 February 1900 – 18 March 1982) was a Soviet military commander and Marshal of the Soviet Union. He is best known for his leadership during the Battle of Stalingrad, where he commanded the 62nd Army, which played a crucial role in the Soviet victory over German forces. Chuikov's defensive strategies and tenacious leadership were instrumental in the city's defense, earning him the title of Hero of the Soviet Union in 1945. His memoir, "The Battle for Stalingrad," provides a detailed account of the battle and his military tactics. In Hebrew, his name can be transliterated as בסילי צ'ויקוב. In German, he is known as Wassili Iwanowitsch Tschuikow, and in French, he is referred to as Vassili Tchouikov. Chuikov's contributions to Soviet military history and his role in one of the most significant battles of World War II have cemented his legacy as one of the most notable military figures of the 20th century.
