Torah Gematria

Torah gematria (Hebrew: גימטריה תורנית, gematria toranit) refers to the practice of interpreting the Hebrew text of the Torah (the five books of Moses) through the numerical values of its letters. This practice is a form of Jewish mysticism, particularly associated with the Kabbalah, and is used to derive hidden meanings or insights from the text. The word "gematria" comes from the Greek word geōmetria, meaning "geometry," but in Hebrew it refers to the numerical value of letters. In Torah gematria, each letter of the Hebrew alphabet is assigned a numerical value, and these values are used to calculate the numerical equivalence of words or phrases. For example, the word "Torah" (תורה) has a gematria value of 611 (ת=400, ו=6, ר=200, ה=5). This practice is also known as gimatria in Spanish and gematria in Arabic, reflecting its influence across Jewish communities in different regions.
