Taweret, also known as Taueret, Tawaret, and Thoeris in Greek, is an ancient Egyptian goddess who was primarily a protector of women and children. She is typically depicted as a composite creature with the body of a pregnant hippopotamus, the legs of a lioness, and the tail of a crocodile, symbolizing her protective and nurturing nature. In Hebrew, she is sometimes referred to as טאוורט. Her name translates to "she who is great" or "she who is mighty." Taweret was believed to safeguard pregnant women, children, and the home from evil spirits and misfortune. She was often invoked for protection during childbirth and was associated with the fertility and life-giving aspects of the Nile. Her image was commonly placed in homes and tombs as an amulet to ward off evil. In other languages, she is known as Taweret in German and Taouret in French.
