Sugriva is a central character in the ancient Indian epic Ramayana, and is the younger brother of the vanara (monkey) king Vali. The name Sugriva translates to סוגריבה in Hebrew, सुग्रीव in Hindi, and சுக்ரீவன் in Tamil. Sugriva plays a crucial role in the epic as an ally of the protagonist Rama. He aids Rama in his quest to rescue his wife Sita from the demon king Ravana. In return, Rama helps Sugriva reclaim his kingdom from his brother Vali, who had exiled him. Sugriva's kingdom, Kishkindha, is a significant location in the Ramayana, and his alliance with Rama is pivotal to the narrative. Sugriva is known for his loyalty, intelligence, and leadership among the vanaras.
