Spaghetti bolognese, also known as spaghetti alla bolognese or simply bolognese, is a popular Italian-inspired dish consisting of spaghetti pasta served with a meat-based sauce originating from Bologna, Italy. The sauce, known as ragù alla bolognese, is typically made from ground beef or a combination of ground meats, tomatoes, onions, carrots, celery, garlic, wine, and milk or cream. The dish is a staple in many countries and is often served with grated Parmesan cheese on top. In Hebrew, it is called ספגטי בולונזה. Other translations include spaghetti bolognaise in French, spaghetti bolognese in Spanish, and spaghetti bolognese in German. The dish gained international popularity in the 20th century and has since become a common household meal, although it is often prepared with variations that differ from the original Italian recipe.
