Sokar (also spelled Seker or Sokeri) was an ancient Egyptian deity associated with the dead, the underworld, and the process of mummification. He was often depicted as a hawk-headed or mummified man, sometimes with a djed pillar, a symbol of stability. Sokar was primarily worshipped in Memphis and was closely linked to the pharaoh's resurrection and the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Over time, his cult merged with those of other underworld deities, notably Osiris and Ptah, forming the composite deity Ptah-Sokar-Osiris. In Hebrew, Sokar can be translated as סוקר, and in German, it is Sokar or Seker. The deity's significance lies in his role as a protector of the dead and his association with the transformative aspects of the afterlife, reflecting the ancient Egyptians' beliefs about the journey of the soul.
