Prophet

A prophet is an individual who is regarded as being in contact with a divine being and is said to speak on behalf of that being, serving as an intermediary with humanity by delivering messages, teachings, or prophecies. The term originates from the Greek word prophētēs, meaning "one who speaks forth" or "advocate." In Hebrew, the equivalent term is נָבִיא (navi), which also denotes a spokesman or speaker. Prophets are central figures in many religions, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and others, where they are often revered as spiritual leaders who convey divine will, moral guidance, and predictions of future events. The role of a prophet varies across different religious traditions but generally involves a calling or commission from a deity to communicate divine messages to others. Prophets may also be seen as reformers who challenge societal norms and advocate for moral and spiritual renewal. Notable examples include figures like Moses, Isaiah, and Jeremiah in the Abrahamic religions, and similar roles exist in other faiths, such as the Rishis in Hinduism or the Báb in the Bahá'í Faith.
